This Conference aims to provide  a unique forum for engineers, scientists and policy makers from academic/ research laboratories/ institutions/ industries/  Government and non-government organizations both from India and abroad to meet and share  technological advances and the policies  on risk reduction in industries and disaster management so as to increase the awareness and lead to emergence of better policies in this regard.RRIDM-2018  is a global platform to discuss and learn about Disaster risk reduction which includes disciplines like disaster management, disaster mitigation and disaster preparedness for sustainable development.

ABOUT NITK Surathkal and Chemical Engineering Department

National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, formerly known as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC), Surathkal is one of the institutes of national importance in India funded by Ministry of Human Recourses and Development, Government of India. Since its inception in the year 1960 as KREC Surathkal, the College established itself as a premier institution engaged in imparting good quality technical education involving good teaching – learning practices and sound research & development activities, as well as testing & consultancy services.

The Department of Chemical Engineering of the institute was started in the year 1965 with Professor M G Subba Rau as its Founder Head of the Department. With his practical and innovative mind, Professor Rau laid a solid foundation to build a very good Department to make competent professionals graduating from the institution. A well balanced curriculum having theory and practice, good infrastructure, well qualified faculty have been the hall mark of the Department since its inception. When the institution was transformed from KREC to NITK, in order to keep pace with the changing needs, a lot of additional infrastructure has been built utilizing funds available from several funding agencies. The Department offers an undergraduate program in Chemical Engineering(since its inception) and three post graduate programs with specializations in Chemical Plant Design(since 1972), Industrial Pollution Control(since 1994) and Industrial Biotechnology (since 2007). In addition, M.Tech (Research) and Doctoral programmes are offered. The Department also offers product testing and industrial consultancy. The alumni of the Department are well placed in profession both in India and abroad.

About NDMA

The Government of India (GOI), in recognition of the importance of Disaster Management as a national priority, set up a High-Powered Committee (HPC) in August 1999 and a National Committee after the Gujarat earthquake, for making recommendations on the preparation of Disaster Management plans and suggesting effective mitigation mechanisms. The Tenth Five-Year Plan document also had, for the first time, a detailed chapter on Disaster Management. The Twelfth Finance Commission was also mandated to review the financial arrangements for Disaster Management.On 23 December 2005, the Government of India enacted the Disaster Management Act, which envisaged the creation of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), headed by the Prime Minister, and State Disaster Management Authorities (SDMAs) headed by respective Chief Ministers, to spearhead and implement a holistic and integrated approach to Disaster Management in India.

Department. of Factories, Boilers, Industrial Safety & Health, Karnataka

The Department of Factories and Boilers is the functionary of the Labour Secretariat of Government of Karnataka. The main functions of the department is to enforce various Labour and Environmental related legislations viz., Factories Act, Payment of Wages Act, Maternity Benefit Act, Indian Boiler Act and the Environment (Protection) Act. The main aim and objective is to protect the interest of the workmen to ensure minimum basic amenities, prevent accidents, occupational diseases likely to occur in the course of employment, ensure conducive safe work place.
